Basic Smoked Salmon Dip Recipe

Depending on how you "fix it up", this could prove to make some very popular salmon appetizers at your next holiday get together. Be sure to make plenty! The following recipe makes enough to serve 10 to 15 guests.

  • 1/2 pound of smoked salmon, no bones, no skin
  • 3 tablespoons of cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Beau Monde seasoning, or celery salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

Flake the smoked salmon apart, the mash thoroughly. Sprinkle on the three dry ingredients and mix well. Stir in the mayonnaise and cream cheese, then refrigerate for one to two hours before serving.

To liven things up, try adding some other flavors, like...

  • Lemon zest
  • Minced garlic (just a bit)
  • Finely chopped pimiento stuffed salad olives
  • Slivered almonds
  • Shredded carrots or minced celery
  • Wasabe or hot horseradish
  • chopped chives, basil, thyme or dill weed

Use your imagination. No telling what you'll invent! It's like a thousand different salmon dips in one.

When serving, provide an assortment of crackers, cucumber slices and mini-breads that the salmon dip can spread over. And for those with a flair for red pepper flakes as a garnish!
